What is the difference between a good and a not so good NLP practitioner training?

I understand that shopping for a NLP Practitioner training can be like somebody time traveling from the stone ages to the year 2012 and they are now shopping for a cellphone. It is much easier to determine the value of something when you have a benchmark. Before I give you some simple tips on this matter, I suggest asking a different question. This will give you some internal reference that should help you make a better decision. This question is: “What are the outcomes I am looking for by doing a NLP practitioner training?” Insist that your training provider shows you how you can get those outcomes. You will quickly resonate more with one of the providers based on how they go about answering your question.
At a technical level you can consider the following:

1. Are you being offered just NLP or is the course supplemented with several other content fillers?
          a) If Yes, then make sure the other content is relevant and useful to you
2. If the main selling point of the program is “who the trainer studied with”, proceed with caution.
3. All NLP governing bodies and associations are really just clubs and don’t perform any quality assurance functions. Unfortunately an impressive resume with several affiliations does not mean that you are going to get the best training.
4. From what I have seen in the market every NLP training covers basically the same content. In practice it ‘s not really a differentiator. If at all possible engage a provider on how much emphasis and time they give specific application areas of the content.

Why are some NLP practitioner trainings shorter or longer than others?

There are really 3 main factors that determine the length of any training.

1. The content - Some NLP trainings are filled with several other subject matters and that will require more time to cover the content.
2. The allowance for exercise time- Some NLP trainings allow half of each day for voluntary exercises.
3. Justification of the price - Another trend is to extend the duration of training as it makes the price seem more reasonable

Can I learn NLP from just reading books or online?

The answer to the question; “can I?” is always yes. Reading and online training is great to increase your knowledge and learn principals. I was once told by one of my mentors that you don’t know something if you are not doing it. You only know of it. The purpose of attending a NLP practitioner training should be the transition from knowing of it to knowing it.

Why do some NLP Practitioner trainings cost more than double the others?
The entire self –help industry is unregulated. That has resulted in a complete free market system. What is important to know is that the price is NOT a reflection on the value you stand to receive. The methods used for determining pricing range from:

1. Daily rate model
2. Competitor driven pricing
3. What do I need to pay my bond? model
4. What did my trainer teach me? model

The point here is to make your decision based on what you are looking for as a measure and not primarily price, as much as price is important.
